Give It A Ponder
I came across this hilarious social media PSA/campaign by LG Electronics called “Give It a Ponder” warning kids against the perils of inappropriate or offensive texting. It especially encourages kids to avoid sexting (sending pictures and text of a sexual nature) and spreading rumors via text. The campaign features James Lipton, host of “Inside the Actors Studio,” and his beard, which Lipton removes and puts on the faces of kids who need to “give it a ponder” before sending a text. GiveItaPonder.com’s home page is simple, with Lipton’s beard making some clever comments and links to the Give It a Ponder Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and YouTube pages and the Wikipedia definition of “Cyber-bullying.” The main Give It a Ponder site has no content on it other than the opening monologue by the beard. Check it out, it’s pretty clever.
On another note, I find it very interesting that a guy like James Lipton, who seems very serious and traditional most of the time, is becoming such a YouTube star for youth-oriented brands and advertising campaigns. Lipton appeared in a series of YouTube videos for DC Shoes, which also utilized his serious demeanor to create comedic moments.
